Adolescent Pregnancy

The Causes Of Teen Pregnancy

There are many reasons for adolescent pregnancy. Some social, economic, and cultural factors are responsible for teenage pregnancy. Sometimes teen pregnancy is intentional and sometimes unintentional.

Low Socio-Economic Status

Lack of proper education and lack of a robust economic condition are the main reasons for this condition. The girls who come from these families don’t have the ambition of higher education and a successful life. They can’t think out of the box. Some girls dream of doing something big. When they think the economic condition of the family and the country, their dreams nip in the bud. Then they make friends with other teenagers and take drugs and engage in unsafe sex, which leads to teen pregnancy.

Another aspect of low socio-economic condition of the families is the lack of connection with family members. To maintain the family’s cost, parents go outside for work. So, the juveniles don’t get enough time to spend with their family members who will guide them in time of their adolescence.

Lack Of Proper Education

Lack of knowledge about safe sex, reproduction, complications of immature pregnancy, and available contraception leads them adolescent pregnancy.

Take Drugs And Alcohol

Teenagers can’t guess the consequences of taking drugs and alcohol. They sometimes engage in binge drinking. After drinking alcohol and taking drugs, they can’t control their mind and engage in unsafe sexual intercourse.

taking alcohol with parties

Even sometimes, they can’t recall what happened after binge drinking or experimenting with heavy drugs. When they feel they are pregnant, they don’t have any options except abortion.

Sexual Abuse And Peer Pressure

Young girls are sometimes sexually abused. A male drinking heavy alcohol and experimenting with drugs force juveniles to engage with sex. Girls try to get rid of them, but sometimes they are unable to get rid of them. WHO has said that 1 in 3 women globally experience sexual and physical violence by:

  • A husband
  • A boyfriend
  • A lover
  • An intimate partner
  • A relative
  • A colleague
  • A stranger
  • A boss.

Sometimes a male partner may force female to express “true Love” by engaging sex with them. For a deep feeling of sex, sometimes a male manipulates the females to engage in unprotected sex, which leads to teen pregnancy.

Influence Of Media

Peen pregnancy has short-term and long-term effects, which are very bad. There are some media shows which has a direct impact on teen pregnancy. Some shows give awareness of teen pregnancy, and some encourage teen pregnancy.

Sometimes media shows the habit of drinking alcohol of their fans. So, they indulge in binge drinking, which leads to unprotected sex and adolescent pregnancy.

Culture

There are some countries where early marriage is common, and sometimes early pregnancy is assumed as blessings for them.

Even the parents of some countries believe that the earlier a baby born, the earlier they will get a member of income by sending them child work. So, teen pregnancy is attractive to those societies.

In developed countries, teen marriage is less common. But in those countries, there has no strict family restriction for making the relationship with peers. So, they engage in intercourse to express genuine love to their partners. But lack of knowledge of reproduction and contraceptive methods, they face adolescent pregnancy.
